Work related stress issues are said to have affect on more people in the UK than in Europe according to recent research.
Recently published research showed that employees in the UK have the highest stress levels and the lowest levels of job satisfaction in Europe with only 36% of employees saying they enjoyed their work.
It is agreed that there are many reasons why a person is affected by work related stress issues. Researchers conclude that it is not necessarily a bad thing for a person to have and work under some pressure, but when that pressure becomes excessive, ill health can result.
The adverse reaction that people have to the excessive pressure of stress related issues could result in them suffering the following symptoms and conditions:
- Migraine
- Tension
- Headache
- Nausea
- Muscular pain
- Discomfort and pain
- Emotional exhaustion
- Coronary heart disease
- Onset of diabetes in predisposed people
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Relationship problems
Recent media interest has drawn attention to the continued presence of bullying and harassment in the workplace and the steadily growing awareness that employees take time off work with stress related illness. In the UK there are approximately 175 million days lost to sickness absence and a high proportion of this sickness absence is due to work related stress.
I have had much active experience working with clients in diverse institutional and occupational settings and have awareness of relevant social and cultural considerations.
